Transferring the contents from another worm bin to the Urban Worm Bag should be fairly easy but the process will depend upon whether you have a stackable tray bin like the Vermihut or Worm Factory 360 or a single compartment bin like the Hungry Bin, a Rubbermaid tote, or something else.

The following instructions assume that your existing worm bin is of the same volume (4 cubic feet) or less than the Urban Worm Bag.

Transferring from Stackable Trays: Vermihut and Worm Factory 360

Transferring should be fairly easy, especially if you don’t need the castings right away.

Simply place the contents of your trays in reverse order into the Urban Worm Bag.

After assembly (and making sure the bottom in cinched shut!), put the contents of bottom tray in the Urban Worm Bag, followed by the middle trays, followed by the top trays.

Even if there are straggler worms in the bottom - and there usually are in trays - then they will make their way higher. If your situation allows it, we recommend keeping the removable bottom separated and even consider running a fan on to the bottom part of the Bag. This will start drying out the bottom contents of the bin, and “push” the worms higher into areas above that might be more moist.

Transferring from Single Compartment Bins

To transfer from one single compartment bin into the Urban Worm Bag, the first thing you'll want to do is find yet another container ("placeholder bin") which will be able to fit about half of the contents of the bin you intend to transfer from.

When you're ready to transfer, you'll want to remove the top half of the contents of your existing bin to place into the placeholder bin.

Next, take the remainder of the contents of your existing bin and place it into the Urban Worm Bag, ensuring that the bottom drawstring is cinched shut with the drawstring outside of your Bag!

After that, take the contents of the placeholder bin and place it into the Urban Worm Bag.

The worms may be distributed all throughout the Urban Worm Bag, but they will eventually make their way to the top layer!
