We generally recommend the red wiggler (eisenia fetida) because it is the most adaptable to the widest range of conditions. It also tends to be the cheapest.
The larger cousin of the red wiggler, the European Nightcrawler (eisenia hortensis) is also an excellent choice as a vermicomposting worm that can also double as a bait worm.
